Whats up with everyone here? İf anyone is still here…
Turns out the hollow knight wiki moved so
Should we put mosscreeps into the Species page?
Hello. I like this game and I like talking to others. I started playing hollow knight last month, and I have made some good progress, to the point of beating all bosses (except absolute radiance) on radiant difficulty.
They’re a bit silly
Would it be better to get hollow knight for my switch or my laptop, I just wanna get the community's opinion so i don't feel obligated to buy two copies of the same game
I exist to post some random old writing exercises about the Knight/Ghost from the Culture Realm because I'm bored and there isn't much going on in Fandom rn; and by old I mean like October 5th 2022 was the most recent edit
For context the Culture Realm involves combining games and whatnot (Hollow Knight, The Battle Cats, The Pink Corruption, ect.) with various historical cultures which admittedly started as just stereotypical planets of hats (look it up) but the Hollow Knight broke the mold and afterwards I have been trying to make it not so stereotype based (Hollow Knight is Medieval Europe, The Battle Cats are already all over the place so they're like a species of explorers that gather knowledge and cultural elements, Pink Corruption is medieval/early modern Japan because samurai are cool, ect.). The Knight specifically is a blacksmith/alchemist, and he's also been learning how to fight and stuff by one of the squires in exchange for teaching them alchemy, he is capable of talking but his voice is literally locked in monotone so his character arc involves him learning to communicate effectively despite this (and also finding a cure for the Radiance since he got himself partially infected trying to make one).
Anyway onto the writing exercises
"He was down in his basement, poring over various chemicals and potions, mountains of papers and sketchbooks with notes scrawled all over them, minutes before it happened. Gathering the entirety of his tool set, a large stash of every element imaginable, and even samples of the Radiance from various sources, he skimmed over his notes one last time, then proceeded to attempt his project: create a cure for the Radiance. Mercury, because it affected one's mind; Gold, because it glowed a bright orangey yellow like the sun; Water, because it was like liquid; Air, because victims produced an contagious gas; he turned on the burner, Fire; for good measure. It started hissing and he almost wished he had taken a safety precaution in case it failed and made an airborne hazard. That regret spiked when, to his horror, the glass equipment burst, sending shards of glass, an orangey black liquid, and a teal colored gas flying in all directions, including his. Panicking, he tried in vain to remain untouched, got cut by shards of glass, the gas in his respiratory system, and stray drops of liquid in his right eye. With his eye stinging and difficulty breathing, he scrambled out of the basement. A few days later, after all the gas dissipated from the building, he cautiously went back down into the basement to clean up the glass and liquid, but not long after he started, he started feeling a little woozy; and, alarmed, he went up to the bathroom and scanned with increasing worry his reflection in the mirror. That's when he knew he had made a horrible mistake: there was Radiance leaking from his eye."
"He stared out from behind the counter, with a deep hatred for that girl: Hornet. He was convinced that she didn't want him to find a cure before she did, and that she sabotaged his work, knowing full well what it could have led to, to try and get rid of her rival. He wiped off the Radiance leaking from his eye, knowing it wasn't going to stop it from dripping down his face. His heart practically felt like it froze when he realized Hornet was looking at him. She walked up to the little fellow, narrowing her eyes. 'I see you didn't listen to my suggestion,' She commented, noting the orange drippage from his right eye. 'Shut up, Hornet. Why are you even worried about it? It's not like you were the one trying to find a cure,' the man snapped, but failing to show his aggravation in his muted tone. 'Oh come on Ghost, you knew it wasn't going to work! If you're seriously still trying to find a cure after you already managed to get yourself infected from it, you're insane.' 'Yes, I am still trying to find a cure, thank you, and if anything the fact that I myself am infected gives me further motive to keep trying to find a cure!' He pounded his fist in an attempt to show his frustration. 'Considering how desperate you seem to find a cure, you sure don't sound too worried about it,' Hornet said, almost in a teasing tone. He wanted to stab her sarcastic face. 'For the last time, it's Knight, not Ghost, and if you're not wanting to place a smithing or chemical order, then get out of my face,' He said firmly. 'Fine.' She took out a small pouch and opened it, dumping about 300 worth of large geo on the counter. 'Sharpen and polish my nail, would ya?' She said, putting the pouch back and putting her blade beside the geo. Knight sighed. 'Very well then. It should be ready for retrieval in an hour.' Putting the geo in his own large pouch, he watched Hornet leave without a word."
"Knight sat there with a dull patience, on the verge of maybe dozing off, waiting for his first customer for the day. He was snapped back to alert by a gruff looking man slamming down a sack of geo on the counter. 'Hey kid, your parents here? Tell them I got an order for 'em,' the man said in a husky voice, sounding like he was on business. 'I'll have you know I am not a child, and I'm the one running the place, thank you,' Knight remarked in his usual tone, struggling to not sound disinterested. 'So I noticed. You sound too serious to be a kid, but not gonna lie, it is kinda hard to tell from a glance.' 'Yeah, I get that a lot. Anyway, what is it you need? Nail? Potion? Armor?' Knight asked, refusing to let himself get distracted by small talk. 'Right. I need a nail since I lost my last one to a bet in a fight. Long, jagged edges, sharp and slender. Think you can handle that?' The man asked, jingling the sack of geo around. Knight considered for a moment. 'How much are you offering for it?' He asked, trying to figure out how thrifty the man was. '750,' the man replied, putting the sack back down on the counter. Knight considered it reasonable pricing, so he took the sack and said, 'Alright. I should have it ready by tomorrow afternoon.' 'Very well then. Pleasure doing business with you, Mr…' 'Knight. You?' 'Ogrim.' Returning the change in the sack, which was about double what Ogrim had offered, Knight nodded in understanding. Ogrim said farewell, took the sack, and left Knight to his work. Sound so serious... why can't I just sound casual for once? Knight sighed, firing up the forge and getting the purifying formula he brewed with his alchemy set ready."
"'Hey, Bardoon,' I said, walking up to the large caterpillar. 'I… made something for you.' 'Ohrm...what is it you bring me, Tiny One?' I reach for my bag and pull out the pieces, putting them together as I go. Having fully assembled it, I pick up the large object and show it to Bardoon. 'It's a rose,' I said, the metal object rather large compared to my body. 'I made it using some scraps I found here and there.' The caterpillar nodded in appreciation and allowed me to put it in his hand. 'Quite crafty, you are. Ohhrr… Ghost, was it?' This was only the second time we've met each other, so I kinda felt a little silly for making something for him so soon. 'Y-yeah…' 'Might I ask of your profession, Tiny Ghost?' 'Alchemy. Smithing is just something I like to do on the side.' Bardoon paused, as though lost in thought. 'Weave, I do that well. I get nicknamed Silkwyrm because of it. Orm… have you any nicknames?' 'Nicknames? N…no, not that I know of…' 'Alchemist, you are. Wizard might work. Smithing you also do well. Knight is my suggestion.' I looked up at him, feeling unworthy of such nicknames. Ghost was a fitting name for me, since most people treat me as one. But then again that was probably my fault, since I did act rather distanced from others. Wizard… no, maybe if I worked with a staff as well instead of just potions and brews. Though… Knight… maybe… I do work with nails a lot and have one of my own, and they are pretty similar to a sword or lance. And my shell does kinda act like a natural helmet, so… yeah. Actually, the more I thought about it, the more fitting it seemed. 'Knight,' I said. 'Yeah, that does sound fitting. Not a bad suggestion.' Bardoon nodded. 'Ohhrm, yes. Help others understand why you seem so serious, it will. Lets them realize you’re fighting for a goal.' I nodded. Bardoon certainly had a point. It felt good to have someone understand me. That wasn’t something I got to feel very often.
"I was walking off to that brat Hornet’s place when I heard some screaming. Whirling around and drawing my nail, I saw a beetle screaming in terror as some Vengeflies swarmed around him. Time to put this nickname to use: knights normally helped those in need. Ignoring the whispers in my head that were increasing in numbers from the presence of Radiance, I took my nail in my hand and fought off the offenders. I slashed right through three of them as I narrowly dodged a fourth charging from behind. Stabbing the fourth in the head, I heard a screech from behind. Spinning around, I saw a Vengefly King closing in on the poor beetle. Somewhat caught off guard, more of its minions struck me from behind. The whispers continued getting louder and were multiplying, and it was getting unbearable. I snapped under the pressure and started swinging my blade around like a maniac, catching the Vengeflies off guard and distracting the Vengefly King from the beetle. Skewering the vengeflies and stabbing their leader all under fifteen seconds, I threw my nail at the nearest wall, pinning the King down while it bled to death in painful agony. Panting as the voices in my head started quieting down, the beetle got the picture that the coast was clear and stood up, dusting himself off. 'T-thanks for the help, little fella. That was a close one!' He said, walking up to me. 'Name’s Quirrel by the way. Might I ask yours?' 'Knight,' I said, feeling proud of myself. 'Knight huh? From your clothing, I would have guessed you were an alchemist,' he commented. 'Well, I am an alchemist in terms of profession, but what with the Infection around, you can never be too careful around these parts,' I said, looking over at the now still Vengefly King. I looked back up at the beetle and noticed his hat for the first time. 'Are… are you a jester?' I asked, looking at the little bells jingling as he nodded. 'Yes…' He was giving me a weird look for some reason- wait shoot he noticed. 'Er… I was trying to find a cure for the Radiance and it didn’t go well, to say the least. But no, I-I’m not overtaken by it, if that’s what you’re worried about.' I wiped the leaking orange fluid off my cheek, knowing it would soon replace itself anyway, and pried my nail off the wall to clean it. 'Ah. I was hoping you weren’t, considering you seem rather a nice fellow. I suppose you could say my show’s somewhat on the road, so if you wouldn’t mind, perhaps I could accompany you at your place for a bit?' 'I don’t see why not. My blade needs a bit of work anyway.'
I pulled the blade off the desk now that it was polished, grunting from the fact that it was bigger than I was. Quirrel walked in on me and I was reminded of the reason that it was. 'Is that yours? It looks quite big for your small stature,' He questioned. 'No, it's someone else's. I was simply asked to sharpen and polish it is all,' I said, internally glowering at its owner. 'She… should be here any minute now to pick it up.' Carefully handling the nail so as to keep it from grinding against the ground as I walked, I headed over to the counter, of which I had in place of a window. The brat Hornet was already there as I set the nail down, resisting the temptation to slam it on the counter. She swiped it off with ease, inspecting my handiwork with narrowed eyes. After a minute, she said, 'Huh, guess your reputation isn't entirely undeserved. Looks brand new. Did you just make a copy of it or did you put something on it, little Ghost?' 'I make a purifying formula with my Alchemy set,' I replied, far more flatly than I was aiming for. 'I apply it to the silk cloth I use to polish nails.' I put my hands on the counter. 'And I will remind you again that it is Knight, not Ghost.' The voices in my head were practically begging me to yell at her. I wiped the leaking orange fluid off my cheek, and was startled by the fact that I could feel more dripping onto my finger. Shaking it off to the side, I turned back to Hornet, who looked at me like she wanted to call me stupid for trying to find a cure again. But she didn't, she just rolled her eyes and walked off. Quirrel walked over to my side, watching her. 'That… she's the local tanner, right? That girl you were talking to?' I nodded wordlessly. '...Is there a reason you don't seem to get along with her?' 'That girl Hornet’s the one who started it.' .....it occurs to me I didn't finish this last one ._.
I don't really have any direct drawings of the Culture Realm Hollow Knight territory but have some Tank Cat versions of Culture Hornet and Culture Knight
Edit: Correction I do actually have this Index Card of the Knight in his two outfits
